I make no secret of the fact that I adore WJW's Praxis novels, and this one is no exception. It's got political machinations as well as military strategizing, with some nice action sequences.
However, this one does not stand at all well on its own, and readers who have not experienced the previous works in the series will be missing a lot in terms of context and comprehension. So don't just sit there, go get all of the previous works and read them! If you enjoy intelligent military SF and space adventure, you will enjoy this series.
