I thought that the previous entry in this series, The Gates of Tagmeth, excelled at both refreshing the reader's memory on the series and executing a well-plotted, tightly-written story.

This one, however, really fell down on both counts, in my opinion. A considerable amount of it relies on the reader having a clear memory of past events. And the story seems like a long string of events one after another, rather than a coherent plot. I felt as though the author is struggling to figure out where she wants the story to go.

Eventually, in the end, the author does try to wrap it up satisfactorily, but I think this is only partially successful. Nevertheless, this book will be a must-read for fans of the series, in order to be ready for the final volume which will close it out.
