The Wolf in the Whale

I liked this but the more I look back on it, the more I'm uncomfortable with how the publication has treated - or not - the gender aspect. This is a book that deals with trans issues through an Inuit main character, and those issues are treated with a lot more complexity than the "she" pronouns in the book publicity would have you believe. I wish I'd seen it tackled by non-binary and Inuit reviewers who could speak more authoritatively to those elements of the text, rather than treating it as a "girl coming of age in a patriarchy" narrative.
