This is the start of a new subseries in the Lady Trent series, featuring Lady Trent's granddaughter. It's almost entirely epistolary, told in diary entries, letters, and segments translated from the equivalent of the Dragons' "bible" - which may be myth or may be history - transcribed onto ancient tablets which have been unearthed in an archaeological find.
I found this much slower than the original series; the bible entries got rather tedious for me. I enjoyed it, but I don't think it's anywhere as good as the originals.
WARNING: If you have not already read the Lady Trent series, I highly recommend that you Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200, and Do Not Read This Book until you've read the original 5 books, because this one will completely spoil the lovely, amazing story from the first series.
