Those who enjoyed Planetside will almost assuredly enjoy this sequel. After the previous novel's cataclysmic ending, the high-ranking military main character is now a retired civilian employed by a high-tech company -- in a token security role, but really there mostly for the use of his celebrity.
But when he's assigned to covertly investigate a serious data breach at a competitor, he quickly becomes embroiled in a murder and is targeted by assassins and kidnappers. This time he has no power or authority, and no resources to draw upon to protect himself. And once again he is faced with choosing between killing a lot of people or sacrificing what seems to be the greater good.
This is very much a sequel, and I don't recommend readiing it without reading its predecessor. But it's a satisfying, fast-paced adventure in a future of realistic tech with a verisimilitude provided by the author's own military background.
