The good: Hamilton has built a beautiful, interesting universe, a diverse cast of characters, and an intriguing premise. It is old school space opera of the highest order when it comes to world-building.
The bad: I actually wasn't super satisfied with what the author DID with that universe, cast of characters, and premise. The ending also felt a bit flat, I assume in order to be able to pick up from there in the next book. I'm a believer in that whether a novel is part of a series or not, you still want some kind of ending or conclusion to each book, which this did not really have.
