This is a delightfully funny and clever story about a man who only wants to be useful, and realizes that the worlds of tomorrow are populated by people who only want to be safe and comfortable in their traditions.

The escapades of the first half of the story are described in a amusingly cynical way, but don't involve piracy at all. The latter half of the book, which involves some very polite piracy, moves along without much dramatic tension and feels too easy for the protagonist, who seems to always have the solution to hand.

The cliche ending is telegraphed about 3/4 of the way through the book, but this doesn't spoil the story in any way.

Not a classic, but a story with plenty of fun and humor, and a bit of insight sprinkled in as well.
