The title will, of course, remind long-time fans of The Game of Rat and Dragon by Corwainer Smith (Paul Linebarger). The story is not entirely comprehensible (but then neither is much of our existence as we ignore one existential crisis after another). It is perhaps reminiscent of James Tiptree Jr. (Alice Sheldon) or Samuel R. Delany. But I enjoyed much more than I usually do thsoe authors - so perhaps I should say instead Iain M.
