Even better than the first entry (and I loved it). I didn't know what to expect in this series and put off reading it, as I saw some people had tagged it as urban fantasy. It is a so much more than that. The world building and central themes of Divinity and religion are excellent. I've never read anything quite like this. The author tells this entry through the eyes of General Mulaghesh (previously a secondary character) who is suffering from severe PTSD. She is a fantastic, multi faceted heroine. The author uses her past experiences and current mission to deftly explore the concepts of war, military service, sacrifice, and the afterlife.
