Across the Void

Sadly does not live up to the promise of its synopsis

I eagerly picked up this book, which had a synopsis indicating it was exactly the sort of science fiction I enjoy. I wanted to love it. Instead, it's an eyerollingly-bad soap opera with a badly-written female protagonist, a scientifically-impossible spaceship, and an idiot plot. The author really needed to have their manuscript reviewed by a female astronaut; the main character reads like those bad Twitter examples of men writing women characters. And supposedly he got help from an astrophysicist and a tech expert, but the spaceship design doesn't reflect that expertise. Not recommended.
