The first of a two part work, this begins with the hero leaving home to find his way in the world. He learns that there is a war underway, and the invaders are seeingly all powerful. He does his best to preserve the lives and independace of the locals, while using his wits and natural abilities to oppose the invaders.
The story moves along well, the language is rather flowery and over-wraught. The writer tries to make it almost Shakespearean in it's form and content, with very mixed results.
It ends with a lot left to explain, presumably in the second half of the work.
