Solid space opera. Little guy taking on the universe (which in this case is apparently owned by corporations.) Lots of action, mysterious alien enemy, an appealing main character, and requited romance. It was sometimes hard to keep track of all of the bad (or quasi-bad) guys' motives and deceptions, but I think that's often a feature of this genre, rather than a bug with this partiucalr novel.
