The middle book of a trilogy (and/or the second of an extended series), this had more adventure and more cliffhangers, especially the ending. I liked it.

In addition to confronting more Martians that he hasn't seen before, he meets up with the Black Pirates and a goddess, Issus. In denying her his death, he confronts not only her but Martian religion, and this causes plenty of strife among his adopted countrymen. Another truism is that all mortal women swoon to see him - but what if they are put in a room together?

Was enjoyable, but I liked the first book slightly more. On a simple 1-5 system, they rate the same though - 3 stars "liked it". Will continue with the 3rd book, maybe taking a break after that. Mars will wait.
