Elric is the ultimate antihero. No matter how doomed, how moody, or how immoral, you cannot help but love him and root for his victory wholeheartedly. The three short "books" contained within this novel solidify these sentiments. Just when you think he will get a rest or enjoy a happy conclusion to his Herculean efforts, you are promptly reminded that this is Elric, this is torture, this is pain, and you love every minute of it!
