How much more need be said? An exciting page turner with a complex story, nicely evolved plot and well defined protagonist/antagonist relationship, all packaged in a discourse on ecology.
One quibble though: the Grubber outgroup launches an attack on the Pyrran city people and clearly could have simply exterminated them, but decide to go along with the hero's ideas instead. There reason for foregoing that final victory is weakly constructed.
Still, well deserving of a Hugo nomination in its day, and highly recommended reading even now.
