Very engagning story about a criminal sent to a convict world to live out his life and sentence as best he can, considering the world is one of endless violence and death, all part of the social order there.
The hero does what he can to survive and find a way back to Earth to discovver the reasons for the prison world and the ultimate fate of both it and Earth.
Nicely paced and very engaging book, which posits a culture built on survival of the fittest, who are only fit for it because they are criminals on Earth. Sheckley builds an interesting and plausible world, not one, but twice, and gives the reader a very satisfying double surprise ending.
