I was originally drawn to the Mars Trilogy because I am working my way through the Hugo Award Winners. Red Mars was the best of the bunch. The series was a deep dive spanning over a hundred years of the process of terraforming our closest celestial neighbor. The technical aspect of the books were great, but where they really excel was the political conflicts of the different schools of thought of how to optimize the planet for humans to inhabit. Lots of unique characters. It was lenghthy but enjoyable.
