For those few experienced readers who have not sampled Jane Yolen's work, this is an excellent sampling of many styles and themes common throughout her work. Each of the short works has a connection to some more or less well-known story or trope, giving the reader easy access to the author's story arc even if otherwise unfamiliar.
That said, it is fairy tale fantasy with a few exceptions, so if that is clearly off your interest list, it won't be worth your while in any way. It can be enjoyed by teens, but it is advised that a parent review the stories first.
Overall, a light, excellent collection of fantasy short tales.
