The Alliance duology (Ocean's Godori and it's sequel Teo's Durumi) are both good books but they are not without flaws.
The world building was intriguing but there was something about the way it unfolded that made me feel like it would have made a bit more sense to a Korean reader (the same nationality as the author). The characters were interesting, if a bit cliched, but their motivations were not always clear. The plot vacilates between dramatic action and a softer "found family" vibe, and not in a way that flowed smoothly. And the ending of the first book was very abrupt, feeling less like a cliffhanger and more like the publisher forgot to insert the last pages.
A strong editorial hand could have greatly improved these books. I think the author shows promise and I might consider reading more of their work if they continue writing.
