This book is the start of a series, but does come to a solid conclusion. Magic, myth, and legend are here in this very creative story. Time to construct a spoiler-free review.

The plot is told through the eyes of the main character, a strong female. Her race and history are also an important part of this tale. Her friends are a major source of strength. My favorite characters were James "Whitty" Whitlock and the non-binary Greer Leighton Taylor. The antagonists in the larger tale are solid, and though their reasoning seems strange at first, all will be revealed towards the end.

Minor drawbacks - this is a *very* long novel, and has a lot of ground to cover and world to build. There are a lot of plot points in the air, and I felt one was not given quite enough stage - but maybe it will be in later books in the series. Said series runs to 4 books at the moment, the last expected to be published in early 2027.

In short, I recommend this book, and will very likely read more - though I will wait to see if book 4 is really the last.
