A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court was always one of my favorite books as a youth. While using a nearly identical premise, de Camp tells a story at least as good.
The science and history are both delightful and the theory of a "tree" of alternate timelines is intriguing. The only fault is that Martin is a bit too lucky at times, but this minor suspension of disbelief at times is paid off by adding "suspense" to the tale.
