A Fast, Fun Read

I should note that I listened to the audiobook, read by Wil Wheaton.

It was great fun, and I found myself wanting to just keep listening until I had burned through it. It was light, good fun.

The plot revolves around the death of the creator of a world-encompasing sim game called OASIS, that has millions of people log in every day. A sort of Second Life on steriods. He leaves instructions to play a game, the prize being controling interest of OASIS, and his multi-billion dollar fortune. As the characters of the novel obsessed over 80's trivia (the key to the game), I enjoyed the walk down memory lane (being a child of the 70's, and a teenager of the 80's myself), but I almost felt like the author was pushing his own obsession on us, in just the same way that OASIS' creator forces participants to mine through his obsessions in order to excel at the game. I felt like the author was pushing to use more and more obscure references.

In the end, I only minused a half a point for that, as it was a fun read (er, listen).
