The Friday Society

The Friday Society is Adrienne Kress' first YA novel, having won critical acclaim for her children's works Alex and the Electronic Gentlemen and Timothy and the Dragon's Gate. (I haven't read those, but I'm going to check them out as future chapter books to read to my younglings). Though the book is set in London, Kress is from Toronto and she gets cool points for also being an accomplished actor who directs and produces her own work.

Onto the Friday Society! The book centres around three heroines: Cora, a lab assistant to a secret inventor; Nellie, a magicians assistant; and Michiko, a samurai-trained sword fighter. The story follows their blossoming friendship as they investigate a mystery which begins with a few dead bodies and a stranger who attacks from the fog.
