I've let this book sit for a few days before starting the review, and I'm still not really sure what to say about it.

I wasn't at all sure I was going to like it when I started it, but ultimately I did end up enjoying it a lot. It is told in a strong "storyteller" narrative voice, which I can find distancing: you are further removed from the inner lives of the characters, and it can be difficult to sympathise. I think that is why the book couldn't really be much longer, and it isn't a long book at all. Importantly, it feels the right length for the story.

Redemption in Indigo is a folklore-fantasy, set in a nebulous time and place which sometimes seems contemporary and sometimes seems a couple of centuries ago. Supernatural beings are constantly interfering with the lives of ordinary people, and this particular story features one human woman and one particular supernatural being and the strange balance of power between them.

It reminded me a little of Stardust by Neil Gaiman, in tone, although the cultural underpinnings are very different.

I liked it. It doesn't take long to read. Give it a try.
