The Lord of the Rings

In fact, I own several versions of this...they wear out, they got read and dipped into so often. I read the original in one night-long, green chocolate-fuelled orgy of fantasy, with my little Sanyo cassette deck keeping me company through the Marsh of the Dead and into Mordor. I didn't know what to do with myself for about three days afterwards, and I still associate certain songs, 40 years on, with specific sections of the book.

Quite simply, the best book I have ever read.
