I found this to be a highly original story with just the right combination of humor, romance, and demons. The story starts with Karou, an art student in Prague who is fairly distinctive with her blue hair. However, hair color only scratches the surface of how very different she is from her fellow students. As we read, we travel further and further from our 'normal' world into the amazing universe created by Laini Taylor. Karou works for a demon, Brimstone, collecting teeth (that's right, teeth) all over the world. She meets an angel, Akiva, and of course they are drawn to one another. However, as Karou and Akiva slowly navigate their complicated feelings for one another, we also start to learn Akiva's personal history and how it ties back to the world of demons and Karou's mysterious past as well. The story is well paced and has some fun twists and turns. It is a "young adult SF" novel but the rich development of the story should appeal to many readers. I am completely wanting to re-read it as I write this review.
