While I have not read THIS book, I HAVE read The ANything Box - which is not listed on this site, and more's the pity (hint, hint)!
Zenna Henderson's writing is a revelation: I read her first in collections of short stories, and then finally found a collection of her work.
She was brilliant: each story of The People is a gem; each story is a delicate little masterpiec ethat explores both the human and the inhuman condition - from the points of view (mainly) of teachers and children, in a rural US environment. She wrote so well, and so lyrically, that I think she is one of the lost giants of SF.
And she needs to be found. Agitate for republication; agitate for digital publication - it would be SO worth it.
