This is the second half of a very long novel, the first half of which is entitled Blackout. Neither stands on its own, but must be read in conjunction with the other. I don't care for the novel-in-two-halves-with-different-titles format. That cost it a rating penalty of one star - that and the fact that it's sooooo long.

The book is a pretty good read, but it dawdles along. I found myself mentally tapping my foot thinking, "Get on with it!" It could easily have been a third or more shorter without suffering any loss of story.

I had other Connie Willis books on my mental to-read list, but after this long (albeit not unpleasant) hike, they've earned a lower priority.

How odd that Blackout won both the Hugo and the Nebula awards, and All Clear, which is really the scond half of that same novel, apparently was not even nominated.
