Righteously angry and sarcastic, I'm not sure that The Female Man is really a book that's supposed to be enjoyed, and if that's the case then it has succeeded in one of its goals.

There are a few scraps of interesting ideas, but they were buried in a structural incoherence that made it very difficult to get much traction. There wasn't a lot of story to follow. The book is a mish-mash of worlds and viewpoints and narrative voices, and it's hard to see why it's so highly-regarded. It might be a lack in me, but I like a story I can follow. Apart from a few short stretches of continuous narrative, this just felt like a slog. At least it was relatively short.

I've given it 2.5/5, and even that feels generous.
