MaddAddam is the third book in a trilogy. The first two books are necessary for the back-story, in fact, much of MaddAddam itself seems like back-story. It's not very fast moving, but at least it wraps up the significant loose ends from the first two books, Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood. If you didn't read the first two, there's no point in reading this one. Well into the book, things finally start to happen and the story begins to gain momentum. Thankfully, the end of the story is not too bad.

The style of science fiction is kind of like cyberpunk without the cyber.

The MaddAddam trilogy didn't reach the standard set by Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.
