A fast read. The author's prose is competent but unexceptional. The story makes use of a very old, very common SF plot premise -- which would be okay, if it did it in a revolutionary new way.
Halfway through, I found myself fervently hoping that the "twist" wasn't going to be the expected one -- that there would be more to the story, making it more than just a run-of-the-mill SF horror-suspense novel.
Sadly, the ending was all too predictable. Which is to say, if you're a Stephen King fan, you'll probably enjoy this. Those who prefer mysteries where the ending is completely unexpected -- or at the very least, just damn hard to figure out ahead of time -- will most likely be disappointed.
