It's a rare thing when I quit reading a book without finishing it. A book has to be really awful for me to do that. But I gave up on this one after 110 pages (25%). It might have gotten better after that -- but I just wasn't enjoying it nearly enough to spend precious reading time for prospective Hugo nominees on it. I am utterly mystified as to how it got nominated for a Nebula.

Technically, it's SFF -- but I would just call it prehistoric fiction. It's similar to Clan of the Cave Bear -- but a lot of Amazon reviewers say that Jean Auel's version is much better.

Basically, it's a litany of bodily excretions peppered with random survivalist violence. Not recommended, unless vivid descriptions of wild beast hunting, scatological functions, and masturbation are really your sort of thing.
