The first 30 pages of this book took me longer to read than the rest of the book. The beginning of the story just didn't grab my attention. But after I realised that the main character, Cathy, is not a fae person but someone who wants to lead an ordinary life the story started to gain momentum.

The strict manners, controlled courting, and fear of patrons' anger reminded me of period dramas. Cathy has broken the rules and there is a risk her family will suffer and be disgraced. But unlike the rest of the women in her social circle, she wants to fight the system and continue breaking the rules. I liked that, and I liked the fact that she had ran away to forge her own path. I never actually realized that the bloke called Max seemed to be some sort of hero in the story - I felt Cathy was the interesting one.
