More Romance, Less Fantasy

Elfland seemed to be primarily a romance and a family drama, rather than a fantasy. The characters and their personal relationships are really the driving force of the story. The story follows the Fox and Wilder children from their childhood through their growth into young adults, with all the mistakes and false starts they make in their lives along the way. However, I rarely had any positive feelings towards the characters, who were typically incredibly selfish and seemingly unaware of how priviliged their lives were. This made it difficult for me to become engaged in the story.
