The Rats

This book is part of a trilogy along with Lair and Domain. When I started reading James Herbert I did not know this and so I read Domain first and have not yet read Lair. So I have read this a bit out of sequence. I do not think this matters as I cannot remember any characters from Domain that features in Rats. It just seems to be the rats themselves that recur.

This is a short horror novel which can be quite grisly in parts, though I did not find it as horrific as Domain.

This was James Herbert's first novel and is very different from his later work. Shorter is a main difference but more depth and character development/story develpoment feature in his later books.

A good chilling horror novel.
