A bit dated, especially in the ways that Haldeman writes about women and about sexuality. The former is particularly odd to read because he tends to be quite good at writing women as soldiers... but then as soon as they're placed in civilian situations, they turn simpering and ultrafeminine.

The battle sequences are genuinely involving, though, (speaking as someone who doesn't usually get excited about military sci-fi) and Haldeman does a great job of exploring the effects of time dilation on a long war fought by combatants from distant solar systems.
