I don't usually read vampire stories. I don't like the amount of plot time spent on describing how much (sexual) pleasure vampires (and their slaves) get from sucking blood. Fledgling frustrated me as much as any other vampire story in this sense. (I was very happy there were no graphic sexual encounters - that's another vampire story trope I dislike).

The basic elements of the story were good - amnesia, main character being a child, piecing together your story from fragments. However, the reason why her family was killed wasn't plausible, or at least it should have been developed fully. Now the catastrophic incident seemed like a random act of violence with no deeper motivation.
