Another slice of magic from Murakami. A young boy enters a library where he meets a very sinister librarian indeed! We have a dark tale of kidnap and delving into the subconscious and facing up to irrational fears of childhood. The cell reminded me a little of the well in 'The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle' as one searches within oneself for answers and escape. The best surprise in this short book was the return of Sheep Man from 'A Wild Sheep Chase' which put a real smile on my face! It's great to see an old friend again!

Quite a lot of interesting ideas, the fantastical and how Murakami manages to make something as ordinary as a visit to the library into something so terrifying, yet so matter-of-fact.

Really enjoyed this very short book.
