The first of the Helliconia Trilogy, this was interesting, but never really caught my imagination I'm afraid. The story of a world coming out of a long, cold winter and finally beginning to blossom, it has obvious correlations to our own world, at the end of the ice age, and coming out of the Stone Age and into the Bronze Age. As such, the story was interesting, because this is a period of time that fascinates me. However I never found the characters to be engaging, and not enough is know about the observers from Earth to make them engaging either.
Hopefully it will pick up in the next book.
