Wow did I like this book. Though the world itself feels very small--and Maia almost never left the palace once he was brought there--the layers to the world are immense. There is a glossary and section of explanations, but the context is such that you pretty much don't need them.
This book feels quiet and small right up until the last quarter where things begin to happen and never slow down until the end.
