Oh, my gosh, I don't even know where to begin. Unique, compelling, impossible to put down. Heartaching. Characterization? All over the map; a lot of it sounded more like early-21st century banter than 19th century multi ethnic, but it all worked. Oh, did it work. Conclusion a bit too pat? Villain off-the-wall? Maybe so, but overall, it worked for me. Oh, did it work.
