My first Le Guin. I kept hearing that this book was preachy as hell, but I really didn't see it. Davidson was sadly pretty believable, and I'm glad we got to see his rationalisation for violence and suppression, instead of him being a Big Bad. All the other characters were shades of grey, Lyubov and Selver being great examples of that. I think it spoke frankly of human superiority, the dangers of colonisation - and also the unalterable affects that colonisation often has. I mean, admittedly, it alters a "perfect" civilisation, with no killing, which is obviously an extreme culture, but other than that, it was beautiful. Also, the best title ever.
