Well, this turned into one of my favourites! This missed telephone call device which lots of people seemed to not like makes the book feel quaint to me, which I don't mean in the patronising sense. Loads of elements to this big plot that took place both in the 1300s and in "modern"/future day. Even the minor characters had fully-fledged personalities, and the world felt so big outside of what we saw, purely because of that. I'm sad to leave these characters behind, really.
