This was absolutely gorgeous. Like The Goblin Emperor, it was strongly character-driven, with unique and detailed worldbuilding. It is not a plotty story: an engineer is sent from the Capital to build a bridge, under difficult conditions, and succeeds in doing so. But it is also a story of loss, and growth, and change, that can tear your heart out as you read.
