Uprooted

Fantasy is not my favorite genre - that would go to Science Fiction- however, I read Uprooted because it had recently won the Nebula Award. My rating system is based upon my personal and subjective "liking" of a book - NOT upon how well the book was written. Uprooted was superbly written, and easy four stars. But for how much I liked it I gave it 2 stars which for me means that I thought it was just okay, I only finished it because it won the award.

• While I really enjoyed the first half of the book, the later half seemed to really drag on. By about 2/3 through I was wanting it to be over but it seemed to take a long time to get to the end.
• The "love interest" and sex scene overall seemed rather forced, again, well written in terms of pure syntax, but it just didn't seem to really fit in with the overall storyline.
• I felt like the ending itself became a slight jumble, it was very slow during the last 1/2 of the book but then all of a sudden it was over but left me just a little confused.

In summation, if you like fairy-tale fantasy then my guess is you will like this book, but for me it was just an okay read.
