Hmm? Two movies and both were more entertaining than the book. I started this SciFi classic with high expectations and ended unfulfilled. More novella or short story than novel. Worth reading for its influence on science fiction, but in itself, outside of its time, it reads a bit dull. Most disappointing of all is just how little of the future the reader gets to see. So much opportunity left undeveloped or underdeveloped. The kernel of the story, of course, has staying power, and it is that kernel, not execution, that is responsible for The Time Machine's continued popularity. In the end, some interesting ideas, but surpassed by many of the works it has influenced.
