Devil in the Darkness

If one has both The Haunting of Hill House and Hell House sitting on your shelves, this one should sit side-by-side with them - a little known gem, only now getting a printing in America.

Devil in the Darkness is a classic haunted house story, written by an astro-physicist who was also a paranormal investigator. At times, I wondered if the events described came from a plethora of actual case files, stitched together to form a full and cogent narrative. (If that is the case, then there are some case files somewhere that would make fascinating reading.) The novel also reflects the state of the paranormal investigation field as it was at the time of the writing of the novel, 1978.

Aside from those technical details, the horrors Roy describes, those which initiate the whole thing in the past, and those in the present, make our spiral journey into and out of horror, very worthwhile for any fan of this genre.

Highly recommended.
