I've been reading Arthur C Clarke since I was very young, and this is familiar writing. Like The Martian, some problems occur, and solutions are found and explained. This is a pretty quick read, even as an audio book. It's not a high-action piece, though.

It is very laid back, and may contain more explanations than readers enjoy. When the asteroid is detected, Clarke describes a past history of close encounters and asteroid strikes. When religious fanatics attempt sabotage, Clarke describes their religion. When a difficult decision that affects humanity is needed, Clarke describes the world government that now exists and the vote taken. There are more explanations also, but some would reveal spoilers.

It was good, it wasn't great, and I don't think it was Clarke's best work. I enjoyed reading it, and some of the author's note. Would prefer to focus on his mid-career writing. May pick up one of the other titles he mentioned in the author's note - books released after his Time article but before this book.
