I just read 'The Changeling' by Victor LaValle which is a modern fairytale horror set in New York about a decade ago. It's quite a fast page turner and as long as you don't think to closely it's great. It can be very dark at times but leans into fairy tale tropes well, and like all good fairy tales has you thinking about a bunch of other things. In this case there are strong questions and themes around, race, masculinity, parenthood and living with grief and emotional / psychological challenges. Quite liked this one.
