Random quote: "America is a nation of liars, and for that reason science fiction has a special claim to be our national literature, as the art form best adapted to telling the lies we like to hear and to pretend we believe." -- Thomas Disch (The Dreams our Stuff is Made Of)

You probably know the feeling: you really want to read some speculative fiction but you don't want to commit right now to a whole series. And that's what this challenge is all about.

The rules: read books that are not part of a series. Even if the book is standalone within its series, it doesn't count here.

Novels or novellas only, no short stories.
